Notes Steve Rauschenberger is the State Senator from the 22nd District. He was first elected to Senate in 1993 and was appointed to the Senate Republican Leadership team in 2003 as Assistant Republican Leader.

While he was chief budget negotiator for the Senate Republicans, Senator Rauschenberger negotiated multi-billion dollar state budgets, which have provided millions of dollars for schools, vital state programs, and local road and infrastructure improvements without a tax increase.

Endorsed by Thomas Roeser

Rauschenberger was charged with driving under the influence in 1994. According to reports at the time, he was pulled over by Hanover Park police, and a breath test showed he had a .12 percent blood alcohol level, just more than the .10 legal limit at the time.

Senator Rauschenberger chairs the Committee on Appropriations and also serves as a member on the Committees on Environment & Energy; Illinois Growth Task Force; and Public Health & Welfare.

Former furniture retailer from Elgin.

Rauschenberger said: "I’m the only [Republican] candidate . ..who has passed a bill or done a budget. The other candidates considering running are certainly bright people, but they’re kind of bored, second-career people looking for something to do who assume the entry level into politics is the U.S. Senate."

Called by nationally syndicated columnist Bob Novak ''a rising star.

State Sen. Steve Rauschenberger said he is more than 80 percent he will run, but is putting off a final decision until late July or early August.

"I've run into nothing yet that discourages me," Rauschenberger said. "The big challenge is whether we can pull together a fund-raising plan that we can execute."
